Hey thanks. I actually had first heard of Zoroaster in Friedrich Nietzsche's book, "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", and I have started taking an interest in older religions.

One of the ways I want to loosen up the rules a bit is to start auditioning for mods instead of voting on them based on how liked they are and how long they have been here. The security risk is minimal with just a local mod permission.

Normally I'd go to an admin, but you're the only mod/admin online at the moment. If you would be so kind as to raise the issue of the member Mnemosyne in the mod forum it'd probably be a good idea. This user seems awfully interested in Ron Paul and their posts indicate that they probably will be restricted at some point.

Just a heads up. Hope this finds you well.

I read it once in a while, but not very often. I don't have the same interests as I used to.

Rockets over Israel

by Dean on 7th August 2014 at 01:24
This was originally written as a response but it sums up the Hamas / Islamic Jihad : Israel conflict & massacres of 2014. Palestinians are dying and firing bottle rockets in a desperate attempt to stop the blockade. They have tried diplomacy, and been punished for doing so.

The situation in Gaza is killing human life even when Israel is not actively bombing them. I don't need to go into the details including hospital needs, sewage in streets, targeted (unreported

Paving an Interstate on the Moral High Ground

(Cross Posted From The Thin Red Line)

Lev Lafayette reminded me of something easy to forget:

On one level such attitudes are the result of an apparent inability to consider life from the perspective of a person living in such countries. For decades these countries have been ruled by absolute monarchs, dictatorships, or regimes with only a pretence of democracy, all of which have engaged in gross violations of basic human rights. -Lev Lafayette, How beautiful is freedom /

May Day 2011: If They Tell You You Can't, Then You Can

by Dean on 5th May 2011 at 18:10
Today, I got a chance to momentarily leave my armchair and rise up with my fellow discontents. May Day 2011 saw a motley crew of 300-500 core Richmond leftists hit the streets. There was much ado about the police this time around: namely, the police claimed that protection had to be purchased, and the organizers had to foot the bill. The ACLU even got involved, ineffectively.

Barrett Correctional Center

by Dean on 28th April 2009 at 19:02
I remember my mom used to work at the correctional center as a librarian. She used to talk about kids she got interested in books. It was the only job she talked about where she got any kind of satisfaction. I never got to tell her that I was proud of her, because I never thought to...

My fiance works as an intern for social work at the jail. I guess that reminded me of her.
