If the USSR still existed would the US economic policy be aimed more at pacifying workers then maximizing profits? It just seems that the US ruling class stopped trying to put a human face on the markets after the USSR was gone.

I can't see why, they didn't bothe rputting a human face on the market when the USSRwas there either. The Soviet Union was alive and well throughout the Reagan years after all.

True but it got worse after the USSR, for example the 'Democratic Part' abandoned the idea of Keynesianism with Clinton.

it would be interesting to see, although I think in most respects it would be more or less the same as pre-1988. In some ways its a shame the USSR doesnt exist now because it acted as a 'counter-balance' to american domination. Now that its gone it means theyre un-distracted to carry on terrorising the Palestinians and the rest of the Islamic world.
