Communism is the belief that all property is owned collectively by all.

Socialism is the belief that all property is owned by the government.

that depends on every individual's views and what they were taught.

I don't think there's an "accurate" definition of those terms.

replace "all property" with "the means of production" and it's not far off. In communism property is essentially nonexistent, but socialism is not necessarily antithetical to private property.

Both communism and socialism are based upon public/collective ownership of the means of production, socialism (in theory) uses state ownership (as the representative of the people) as a sort of intermediary to direct collective ownership that would occur under communism.
