Yes, and even though people talk about "Greco-Roman", the Greeks were a different culture from the Romans too, despite the Hellenization of the Romans. It's like the Manchus and the Han Chinese were different. The Romans conquered Greece too, and Greek culture was also older and more sophisticated than that of Rome. (E.g. Greek abstract philosophy and Athenian democracy)
I think there are some similarities between the Romans and the Mongols in terms of their militarism and expansionism. Of course the Romans were still culturally more sophisticated relatively speaking and they had better control over the territories they have conquered than the Mongols did, and consequently Rome lasted longer and left a greater civilisational legacy.
I also can give you alternate history as Reds in France get popular thanks to the Reds in Germany and this will influence the popularity of Reds in Italy and Spain (Don't forget the Spanish civil war!)
