Errrr no. It's donuts, only deep fried. Brid = Bridlington, East Yorks. They're fried in the same kind of fryer as battered cod.

Yes, but RR is referring to deep fat frying in batter which is a typical british method of cooking. In the uk normal biscuits are more widely available than cookies. Biscuits are to us what cookies are to you (or something like that).
