“I am a socialist.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“So let me ask you…if I tell that kid over there that he doesn’t have to do any work and he can still get an ‘A,’ you think that’s okay?”

What? What does that have to do with anything? Is the implication here that under socialism, a person could be completely lethargic and do absolutely no work and still reap the benefits of hard work? I believe that is the implication indeed. And it is one of the most ignorant statements that could have been said.
I would like to know where capitalists and other anti-socialists get their ridiculous arguments against socialism, because they all seem to have the same misinformed source (probably the government or the biased educational textbooks). The truth is that nowhere in any socialist thought, Marxist or otherwise, is apathy and laziness advocated or encouraged. This is a severely misconstrued stereotype of socialism. In reality, socialism advocates the fair compensation of a worker for the work he or she does. Therefore, the kid who does no work should receive a grade that reflects this lack of work, but the kid who does work should be given a fair grade. If a student does ‘F’ work, he or she deserves an ‘F.’ If a student does ‘A’ work, he or she deserves an ‘A.’

“Oh, well…socialism killed 100 million people…”

*sigh* “No comment.”
