Death

Posted 17th October 2008 at 09:51 by Plagueround

Today, sitting at the dinner table, my girlfriend and I were reminiscing about seeing George Carlin live, something I'm glad I had the pleasure to do twice.

My son was listening rather intently, so I turned to him and said "Son, I'm sorry you never got to see George Carlin live."

He looked at me and said, in his developing two year old voice "Yeah. He gone."

Surprised, I said "Yep, he is."

To which he replied "Oh...

Pseudophilosophical ramblings

Posted 4th November 2008 at 02:20 by NoXion

Introduction

First, I will make an admission - religious fundamentalists fascinate me. They have a worldview so completely alien and opposite to mine that to read their screeds that are frequently posted on Fundies Say The Darndest Things is to take a glimpse into a strange and terrifying (and to me at least) new world. These are people that genuinely believe they have an all-benevolent cosmic father watching over them, that He has a plan for the human species. Many of them also believe...

Exceptionalism Reborn: The Rise of Race-Neutral Imperialism

Posted 8th November 2008 at 02:25 by FreeFocus

The election of Senator Barack Obama to the Presidency of the United States has been met with joy and a renewed faith in the “American dream” around the world. Rama Yade, the black French junior minister of Human Rights, remarked “On this morning, we all want to be American so we can take a bite of this dream unfolding before our eyes.” Egyptian feminist Iman Bibars commented "When Obama won, I felt it was the return of the American dream.” Obama’s election, however, raises some critical questions,...

A Travesty We're Still Paying For

Major metropolitan areas all over the US are beginning to realize that their transportation systems are inefficient, wasteful, and, in almost all cases, in need of great expansion to meet rising population demands. While our politicians have no problem pumping billions of dollars into road construction and maintenance (largely due to the huge lobby this industry supplies), little long-term planning is present. For reasons ranging from the inevitable election cycle, in which candidates are dependent...

RevLeft now Google-free!

Posted 14th July 2009 at 15:11 by Edelweiss

I guess it was about time: I already did remove Google ads a couple of months ago and now I also did remove the 'Google Analytics' code from all pages. Google Analytics is a service by Google which offers in depth visitors statistics for websites and so is tracking all kind of data about your surfing behavior on Revleft and on other sites.

Instead, I'm now collecting visitor statistics with the free, open source GA alternative Piwik.

So, bye bye Google!
