Prank calls and application forms

I've been getting them for past few weeks - it always comes up with "private number" and it's always some kind of pre-recorded/machine type thing. You'd think that people would have the stones and/or originality to do the prank calls themselves, perhaps from a payphone or something.
It's sad really, because there have been some really great prank telephone calls in history. Convincing the Queen to record a speech in support of Canadian unity ahead of the 1995 Quebec referendum has got to be one of them.
Yet instead of constructing a masterpiece of pranking and tomfoolery, the frightening dullard(s) who managed to get hold of my mobile number resort to services such as this, which offer the unimaginative pranker-to-be the opportunity to listen in. The first time this happened to me was pretty scary at first, since they chose some kind of "angry cop" gig, but I quickly clued in that it was some kind of send-up as soon as the "cop" in question refused to answer my questions regarding his name.
I have since taken to handing over any prank calls to a friend of mine, who loves to take it as an opportunity to talk smack at both the imaginary caller and the testicularly deficient lackwits who initiated the call and are doubtless listening in.
In other news, I received my application forms for my OU course. Excellent! I intend to fill them out and have them sent off by this Monday, and hopefully I will be getting my course materials soon after that. Doubtless I will post up the news here on this blog.
Speaking of which, one idea I've been thinking over is a regular posting on my blog regarding my studies. I'm thinking it might help as both an aid to study and as a method of chronicling my tentative adventures through the outlying fringes of academic study. Plus it'll give everyone else some kind of idea what it's like to study a basic but nonetheless university-level course, in the hope that others who read my blog may be inspired to undertake such a thing.
Whatever I decide to do, I can't wait to recieve my course materials and get stuck in.
